Columbia Gateway Business Park buildings clad with SlenderWall
MIDLAND, Va. –Smith-Midland
Corporation, manufacturer of the SlenderWall architectural precast
panel system, announced the final completion of the Gateway Exchange
I office building in Columbia, MD. This 125,000 sq. ft., class A office
building is a 3rd in a series of 4 buildings in the Columbia Gateway
Business Park that has used SlenderWall. The 230 Slenderwall panels
feature a “buff” color, architectural precast concrete
mix that was finished with a light acid wash to simulate Indiana limestone.
The buildings are owned and operated by Corporate Office Properties
Trust (COPT) and the 4th in the series will be a mirror image of Gateway
Exchange I and located adjacent to this building.

potential tenants and needed to turn around the space quickly.” The building

The Product
The patented SlenderWall system is the right answer to the question of exterior
cladding for both new construction and recladding projects. SlenderWall precast
concrete architectural panels feature 2” of precast concrete secured to
a heavy gauge galvanized steel frame by epoxy-coated stainless steel Nelson anchors.
At 28 pounds per square foot, SlenderWall enables the use of lighter structural
steel framing and foundations. Installation time and costs can be reduced by
50% due to the exclusive “lift-and-release” panel landing system,
allowing more efficient erection with smaller capacity cranes and decreased shipping
costs. With its low rate of thermal transfer, the system reduces heating and
cooling costs for the completed structure. SlenderWall’s integrated steel
wall studs allow for maximum usable space within the building. SlenderWall panels
are available in a variety of lifetime maintenance-free finishes.
