SMC Awarded 2009 ACI Concrete Award for Jefferson at Inigo's Crossing Project

MIDLAND, Va. –Officials at Smith-Midland Corporation were recently the recipients of the 2009 ACI Concrete Award in the category of Concrete Buildings/Special for their Jefferson at Inigo's Crossing project. The 10-story, 274-unit Jefferson at Inigo's Crossing, located at 5405 Tuckerman Lane, Rockville, MD, was built with Smith-Midland's SlenderWall Architectural Precast Concrete Panel System. The Concrete Awards Program is an annual competition through the National Capital Chapter of the American Concrete Institute. The judging is based primarily on creative, innovative, aesthetic and imaginative use of concrete. Winners will be recognized at the Awards Banquet May 12th at Maggiano's Tysons Galleria, Washington, D.C. The award was accepted by Matthew Smith, VP Sales & Marketing.

Jefferson at Inigo's Crossing was clad with 106,000 square feet of SlenderWall panels with architectural precast concrete brick Second Nature finish and an architectural precast limestone finish. SlenderWall was largely chosen because of the ability to combine the aesthetic qualities of a Class-A brick look with the advantages of a precast panel system. The low-maintenance precast panels weigh substantially less than either traditional precast or brick, with the interior stud wall incorporated into the SlenderWall panel. The installation began in early 2006 with completion in March 2007.
